How to Cook Frozen Hash Brown Patties in the Air Fryer (Quick And Easy)
Upgrade your breakfast with crispy and perfectly cooked frozen hash brown patties made in the air fryer. This quick and easy recipe will have you wondering why you ever cooked them any other way!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Your air fryer is the best tool for cooking frozen hashbrown patties at home! Use our easy method for hashbrowns that are crispy crunchy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside!
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, I’m really, really picky when it comes to potatoes! They have to have a nice crispy outside and a tender inside.
Air fryer hashbrowns cook up fast and are so much crispier than when made in a conventional oven.
We like to serve these with our breakfasts instead of traditional hashbrowns because they are so much easier to cook.
Wondering what to serve with your hash brown patties? In the morning, for a quick breakfast, enjoy hashbrowns with Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches, Ham and Cheese Quiche, or our egg bites and lots of fresh fruit.

Tested in Three Brands
✅ These instructions were tested in the Instant Vortex, Cosori TurboBlaze, and Instant Pot Pro Crisp. This recipe may require a little tweaking depending on the brand you use.
For basket-style air fryers
The Instant Vortex limits their cooking temperature to 400°F or less. Other brands, like the Cosori, can go up to 450°F.
In our testing with hash brown patties, I think you definitely get more crispy goodness in a shorter time if you’re cooking at 410°F. However, the hash browns cooked at 400°F turned out just fine with an extra minute or two of cook time.
For pressure cooker/air fryer combos
We tested the hash browns using the Instant Pot Pro Crisp. The results were less even and less crispy than the basket-style air fryers. (Our guess is that, since the basket isn’t perforated, the air doesn’t circulate as evenly, so the hash browns on the top level are crispier than the ones on the bottom.
If you’re cooking for two or don’t mind some less crispy hash browns, I’d just cook them on top.
Air Fryer Hashbrown Patties cook time and temperature adjustments
Once again, we were happiest with results that followed our air fryer formula of 10 degrees warmer and 1 to 2 minutes longer than indicated on the package directions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Making Hashbrowns in an Air Fryer
Absolutely! If you skip the spray, the hashbrowns may not brown as much during cooking and the seasoning may not stick to it as easily. But I forget it all the time and it doesn’t make much difference.
I prefer to add it before cooking and then adding more to taste after cooking. But you can do whatever works for you.
I try to cook just as much as I think I’ll eat because they never reheat as well as they cook up the first time. However, if you have some you want to reheat, I like to set the cooking temperature to 200F and cook until the hashbrowns are warmed through.
As I said earlier, I just try to cook as much as I think I’ll eat. However, if you do find yourself with leftovers, you can store them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days.

- Seasoning to taste
Instructions
- Select Air Fry and preheat the air fryer to 400F.

- Remove the hashbrowns from the air fryer basket and sprinkle with your favorite seasoning blend. Serve immediately.
- If more are needed, repeat steps 3–5 until all the hashbrowns you need. Do not layer.

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED
Air fryer hash browns are really easy to make and take just three things:
- Frozen hash brown patties: We’ve tested with both brand names and store brands and didn’t notice a difference. Note that some brands come pre-seasoned; if yours do, you may want to taste before adding seasoning after cooking.
- Nonstick cooking spray: We found this one to be optional for the patties.
- Seasoning blend: Use your favorite! We like Potato Slayer, Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, or Red Robin’s, depending on what we’re serving with the hash browns.

How to Make Frozen Hash Browns Patties in an Air Fryer
Before you start cooking, preheat your air fryer.
If your air fryer came with an air flow rack that allows air to circulate under the basket, make sure it is in place before you preheat the cooking rack.
Once your air fryer is preheated, add as many hash brown patties as you’d like to the basket. (Ours held 6 patties total.) If using, spray the tops with nonstick spray, then sprinkle with a generous amount of seasoning.
Return the basket to the air fryer to cook. Midway through (about 6 minutes), give the patties a flip to cook up on the other side.
Cook for another 4 to 6 minutes until your hash browns are the right level of crispy.
Note: In other recipes, we had an “Ultra Crispy Method” that used a metal tray to get no-flip perfect results. However, in our testing, we didn’t notice much difference between the regular and ultra crispy methods, so we haven’t included those instructions in this recipe.
